Tool parameters
Tool number
This is used by default in the TCP manager and should ideally match the tool number used in real life.
Tool name
A name for the tool, used for reference only. It does not affect the program. Use a short, unique name that makes it easy to identify the drilling tool. For example, Drill 8 mm Straight
.
Tool description
More descriptive text will be included alongside the tool name in some areas of Robotmaster. For example, Black Oxide HSS 8 mm Dia x 70 mm Length Straight Drill
.
Drilling tool type
Set the Drilling tool type to apply parameters to the tool.
Straight Drill
Standard CNC drill bit with uniform diameter.Center Drill
Center drill with tapered tip.Spot Drill
CNC spotting drill with an angled tip.Brad Point Drill
Sharp tipped brad point drill.Bore Drill
CNC bore drill.Counter Bore Drill
CNC counter bore drill with a flat (non-angled) tip.Counter Sink Drill
Counter sink drill. Use Tip angle to match angle of countersink.Reamer Drill
CNC spotting drill with an angled tip.Tap Right-Hand Drill
Tapping tool for right-handed threading.Tap Left-Hand Drill
Tapping tool for left-handed threading.
Drill tool dimensions
Diameter
Diameter of the cutting portion of the drill.
Length
Exposed length of the drill tool from tip to end. Any portion of the tool seated in a drill chuck or tool holder should not be included in the length.
Length is used for TCP placement and collision detection.
Flute length
Length of the fluted cutting section of the drill bit. The fluted section is indicated in yellow in the Preview and the viewport.
Shoulder length
Length of the fluted section plus the smooth section of the drill tool. The smooth section of the tool has the same diameter as the fluted section.
If the entire explosed tool is fluted, set:
Shoulder length = Flute length = Length
Arbor diameter = Diameter
Arbor diameter
If the tool has an arbor at the shank end, you can enter a diameter for it. Including an arbor in the model allows you to see depth limits for the tool relative to a hole and can help with collision detection.
Arbor length is automatically calculated based on Length, Flute length, and Shoulder length.
If the entire tool is the same diameter, set:
Arbor diameter = Diameter
Tip angle
Certain drill bits have an angled tip, such as a counter sink.
Note that entering a tip angle has no effect on the length of the tool.
Speeds
Linear speed
Feed rate of the drill tool measured in mm/s. This is the speed when making linear (cartesian) moves relative to the workpiece.
When Linear speed is set at the tool level, this is the default linear speed for that particular tool. Note that this value can be overridden in the Operations editor.
Spindle speed
How fast the tool spindle turns, measured in revolutions per minute (RPM).
When Spindle speed is set at the tool level, this is the default spindle speed for that particular tool. Note that this value can be overridden in the Operations editor.
