Exception raised in calculation routine (It is not possible to calculate a containment curve. The input containment body mesh has no intersection with the machining surface)

The containment body mesh does not intersect with the machining surface

  1. Use Push-Pull or a solid Extrude to extend the containment body mesh through the machining surface

  2. Use Set Normals to ensure the normal of the machining surface is pointing in the direction of the machining surface

Successful generation but an empty toolpath

The path was generated outside of the containment body mesh

  1. Use Set Normals to ensure the normal of the machining surface is pointing in the direction of the machining surface

  2. Ensure the layer being generated is not above the maximum height of the containment body mesh

An exception has been raised inside this chook. Most probably, the tool is not supported by the strategy.

The selected tool is not valid for LAM

  • Double check that the proper tool was selected from the LAM dropdown

  • Edit the selected tool to be valid according to LAM’s constraints

Exception raised in calculation routine (The containment curves are overlapping in offset space. This usually happens when an area can not be machined (tool does not fit everywhere) or when the containment curves are too close to each other.)

Particular layers have failed to generate because they occur in a slice of the containment body mesh containing geometry that LAM “does not like,” to be referred to as problem geometry.

Problem geometry is usually geometry that is not imported properly into Mastercam, such as chamfers or fillets around a complex curve.

The more complex the part geometry, the easier it is to run into this error.

Identify the problem geometry using the following method:

  1. Narrow down the layer range until the specific layer(s) where the exception occurs is identified, to be referred to as the exception layer

  2. Transform the machining surface up to where the exception layer should be generated

  3. Using Modify Feature, remove features of the containment body mesh that intersect with the exception layer one by one until the specific feature causing the issue is found

    • Note: Problem geometry is most often not identifiable. To help approximate what the problem geometry is if the above method does not work, keep in mind that LAM often has issues with shallow curvature and unaligned edges.

      • Ex:

The edges on this surface body do not line up, causing an error when a LAM layer attempts to generate through that

Troubleshoot around the Problem geometry with the following options:

  • Remove problem geometry entirely.

  • Remove problem geometry and replace it to fix import issues. For example, removing a problem geometry chamfer then adding it back with the Mastercam Chamfer tool.

  • Alter the LAM parameters layer thicknesses or base layer offset to avoid generating a layer on the problem geometry entirely.
